A few days ago I commented on a stand-down order to the entire Limington (Maine) Fire Department on account of its non-compliant turnout gear.
The Town’s Board of Selectman ordered the stand-down because the turnout gear was more than 10 years old, in contravention of NFPA 1851, Chapter 10.1.2, provides that “structural fire fighting ensembles and ensemble elements shall be retired … no more than 10 years from the date the ensembles or ensemble elements were manufactured.”
All of the turnout gear underwent inspection over three days and the Town’s fathers have determined – and announced in a press release dated March 21 – that all state safety standards have been met even though the gear is past the recommended 10 years of use.
So, the Limington Fire Department is back in business!
